In 1998, Sony promoted the MLB '99 baseball game by inserting special PlayStation MLB '99 trading cards into Donruss Studio 98 8x10 Baseball card packages. There were a total of 20 available PlayStation MLB 99 cards. Each card had a real baseball player and on the back featured a MLB '99 Tip. There was also a sweepstakes contest where one grand prize winner would receive a PlayStation game console and one MLB '99 game and nine PlayStation games (approx. retail value of $600); One first prize winner would receive a PlayStation game console and one MLB '99 game (approx. retail value of $195); Ten Second Prize winners will each receive one MLB '99 game plus one box of Donruss Studio Baseball cards (approx. retail value of $90); Ten Third Prize winners will each receive one box of Donruss Baseball cards (approx. retail value of $45).
